Mat or reformer
Mat pilates uses body weight and small props and features in many ladies gyms' class timetables. Reformer pilates uses a sprung carriage for resistance and support, and is what physios recommend for backs, posture and postnatal recovery. Classes are small (4–8) and priced per class or pack.
Where the studios are
- Al Malqa, Hittin, Al Yasmin and Al Narjis – the main cluster of women's reformer studios.

What to check
- Instructor reformer certification (BASI, STOTT, Polestar, Balanced Body).
