How gyms work in Riyadh
Almost every gym is either men's or ladies'. The big chains run separate branches for each, often in the same district. A few boutique studios are mixed with separate class times. Start with the gender filter, then the district.
Where the gyms are
- North Riyadh: Al Malqa, Hittin, Al Yasmin, Al Narjis, Al Sahafa, Al Nakheel – the densest area: chain branches, new ladies gyms, pilates and strength studios.
- Al Olaya, Al Wurud and Sulaimaniyah – the business centre: gyms near offices and hotel clubs with public memberships.
- Al Rawdah, Al Rayyan and east Riyadh – mid-range and budget chains.
- Al Aqiq, Al Arid and Al Rabie – new residential districts where new branches follow.
Types
Big chains sell monthly and annual memberships across several branches, with budget and premium tiers. Ladies gyms are fully separate with female staff, both chain branches and independents. Studios charge per class: reformer pilates, yoga, boxing, CrossFit. PT studios are by appointment.
What memberships cost
Prices change; confirm with the gym. Budget chain tiers start around SAR 150–250 a month on annual plans, with higher tiers above that. Ladies gyms usually cost a little more than men's gyms in the same district. Studios charge per class or pack; personal training per session or package.
How to choose
- District first. Riyadh is big, and the drive is what ends memberships.
- Check which branches the membership includes, and whether one is near work.
- Real opening hours, especially in Ramadan and summer.
- Try a day before an annual plan; most chains offer a trial.
